After 30 years in the telecoms industry, beer lover Steve Briscoe decided to turn his lifelong desire to create a brewery into a reality. Planning the new brewery took Steve almost 2 years, with the brewery finally open for business in January 2009.

After organising the finance for the new venture, Steve sourced the brewing equipment and project managed the implementation. The aim was to create a brewery capable of brewing various styles of beer and a key requirement was the production of a Cask Lager.

Steve recognised very early that despite having brewing training from Brewlab in Sunderland , the business would benefit from an experienced brewer.

A chance meeting at a farmers' market led to experienced Wirral Brewer, Mike McGuigan, being made a full partner and the new Betwixt Beer Company was formed.

Mike has spent over 13 years in the brewing industry, and has experience of crafting British ales, Continental lagers and Wheat-Beers. Mike's beers have won many prestigious awards, including Champion Beer of London.
